چکیده

Hardware process calculi, such as Chp (Communicating Hardware Processes), Balsa, or Haste (formerly Tangram), are a natural approach for the description of asynchronous hardware architectures. These calculi are extensions of standard process calculi with particular synchronisation features implemented using handshake protocols. In this article, we first give a structural operational semantics for value-passing Chp. Compared to the existing semantics of Chp defined by translation into Petri nets, our semantics is general enough to handle value-passing Chp with communication channels open to the environment, and is also independent of any particular (2or 4-phase) handshake protocol used for circuit implementation. We then describe the translation of Chp into the process calculus Lotos (ISO standard 8807), in order to allow asynchronous hardware architectures expressed in Chp to be verified using the Cadp verification toolbox for Lotos. A translator from Chp to Lotos has been implemented and successfully used for the compositional verification of two industrial case studies, namely an asynchronous implementation of the Des (Data Encryption Standard) and an asynchronous interconnect of a NoC (Network on Chip).

A Schedulerless Semantics of TLM Models Written in SystemC Via Translation into LOTOS

TLM (Transaction-Level Modeling) was introduced to cope with the increasing complexity of Systems-on-Chip designs by raising the modeling level. Currently, TLM is primarily used for system-level functional testing and simulation using the SystemC C++ API widely accepted in industry. Nevertheless, TLM requires a careful handling of asynchronous concurrency. In this paper, we give a semantics to ...

Specification and Verification of Synchronous Hardware using LOTOS

This paper investigates specification and verification of synchronous circuits using DILL (Digital Logic in LOTOS). After an overview of the DILL approach, the paper focuses on the characteristics of synchronous circuits. A more constrained model is presented for specifying digital components and verifying them. Two standard benchmark circuits are specified using this new model, and analysed by...

An overview of CADP 2001

Cadp is a toolbox for specifying and verifying asynchronous finite-state systems described using process algebraic languages. It offers a wide range of state-of-the-art functionalities assisting the user throughout the design process: compilation, rapid prototyping, interactive and guided simulation, verification by equivalence/preorder checking and temporal logic model-checking, and test gener...

Formal specification and analysis of digital hardware circuits in LOTOS

The thesis discusses using ISO standard formal language LOTOS (Language of Temporal Ordering Specification) for formally specifying and analysing digital circuits. The study serves two-fold: it examines the possibility of extending applications of LOTOS outside its traditional areas, and provides a new formalism to aid designing correct hardware. Digital circuits are usually classified into syn...

Verifying and Testing Asynchronous Circuits using LOTOS

It is shown how DILL (Digital Logic in LOTOS) can be used to specify, verify and test asynchronous hardware designs. Asynchronous (unclocked) circuits are a topic of active research in the hardware community. It is illustrated how DILL can address some of the key challenges. New relations for (strong) conformance are defined for assessing a circuit implementation against its specification. An al...
